Fair or not, a generic address reads as small, temporary, or side hustle. A domain address reads as established. When a customer is choosing between three quotes, these tiny trust signals break ties. Your email address is on every estimate, invoice, and business card you send out. It is marketing, whether you treat it that way or not.
There Is A Deliverability Problem Too
Sending business mail from a free address, especially through website contact forms, trips spam filters more often. Mail from your own domain, set up correctly with SPF and DKIM records, lands in inboxes more reliably. Those are just two DNS records that tell receiving servers your mail is legit, and they take minutes to add.
How To Get Email On Your Domain
If you already own a domain, you are closer than you think. Most hosting plans include domain email at no extra cost. Hostinger bundles it with even its cheap plans, and SiteGround includes it on all hosting accounts. If you want the Gmail interface you already know, Google Workspace connects your domain to Gmail for a few dollars a month per user.
My usual advice: solo owner on a budget, use the email included with your hosting. Team of two or more living in email all day, pay for Google Workspace. Both beat a free address by a mile.
