The stuff most small business owners want to know before hiring me. If yours is not here, just ask.
Pricing & process
How much does a small-business website cost? +
Most small-business builds land between $1,500 and $4,000. The exact number depends on page count, custom design vs. template, e-commerce, and how much copy you have ready. You get a fixed quote up front, no hourly billing surprises.
How long does a new website take to build? +
A standard 5-page site ships in 2 to 3 weeks from kickoff to launch. E-commerce sites take 3 to 5 weeks. The number-one delay is waiting for client content, so I send a structured prompt sheet so you know exactly what I need.
Do you require a deposit? +
Yes. 50% to start, 50% on launch. For monthly plans, the first month is due before work starts.
What happens after launch? +
You get 30 days of free post-launch support. After that you can either self-manage, hire me hourly for changes, or move to the Digital Concierge plan ($149/mo) for hands-off care.
Hosting & ownership
Do I own my website when you are done? +
Yes, 100%. Code lives in your GitHub account, domain stays in your name, hosting account is yours. You can fire me at any time and walk away with everything. That is in writing in the contract.
What hosting do you recommend? +
It depends on the build. Cloudflare Pages for static sites (free, fast). SiteGround for serious WordPress. Hostinger for budget WordPress. Full breakdown on the hosting page.
Can you work on my existing WordPress / Wix / Squarespace site? +
Yes for WordPress. For Wix and Squarespace I will usually recommend rebuilding on a faster platform, because both lock you in and cap how fast a site can possibly be. The Performance Tune-Up is the right starting point if you are not sure.
AI services
Will the AI chatbot make stuff up about my business? +
No. I configure them with retrieval grounded only on your content (site, FAQs, services, files you provide). If a question is outside that knowledge, the bot says so and offers to take a message instead of guessing.
Who pays for the AI / OpenAI / Anthropic API costs? +
You do, directly. You keep the API key and the data. For most small-business chatbots that runs $5 to $30 per month. You can set a hard spending cap in the API dashboard so it can never surprise you.
Is recording calls with the AI voice agent legal? +
In two-party consent states (California, Florida, etc.) the agent must disclose recording at the start of the call. I build that disclosure into every voice agent by default.
SEO & results
Can you guarantee I will rank #1 on Google? +
No, and any agency that does is lying. What I can guarantee: a technically clean site Google can crawl, on-page SEO done right, real Core Web Vitals (the things Google actually scores), and a content workflow you can sustain. Rankings follow.
How long until I see SEO results? +
Technical fixes show up in weeks. Real ranking improvements take 3 to 6 months for most local small businesses. Anyone promising faster is probably buying low-quality backlinks that will get you penalized later.
Do you do paid ads / Google Ads? +
Not as a service. I will set up conversion tracking and audiences so a PPC specialist can run ads against the site, and I can refer you to a few I trust.
Working together
Are you a one-person shop or an agency? +
Solo by design. You talk to me, I do the work, no account managers. For larger projects I bring in a designer or copywriter I have worked with for years, but I stay your single point of contact.
Where are you located? +
Web Guy Nick LLC is based in San Bernardino County, California. I work with small businesses anywhere in the US, mostly remote with occasional in-person for local clients.
How do I get started? +
Book a free 20-minute audit on the contact page. I will look at your current site (or what you want to build), tell you the 2 or 3 highest-leverage moves, and you decide if it is a fit. No pressure, no sales script.
