Cartoon Nick reads a lot of Google review replies, and most of them are one of two things: nothing, or "Thank you for your feedback!" copy-pasted forty times. Both hurt you. Google reads replies as engagement, and customers read them as personality.

Here is how to do it in five minutes a week without sounding like a bot.

AI at Work Tip #69: Reply to every review in your actual voice

Paste your last three replies that you wrote yourself. Those are the voice sample. Then:

Here are three review replies I wrote myself: [paste]. Match that voice exactly. Now reply to this new review. Rules: mention one specific detail from their review, no generic thank-you openers, no exclamation points, under 60 words, sign off with my first name. If the review is negative, acknowledge the specific problem, do not argue, and invite them to contact me directly at [email or phone]. Review: [paste]

Do it in a batch once a week. Ten reviews, ten minutes, all in your voice.

AI at Work Tip #70: Turn five-star reviews into a month of posts

Your happiest customers already wrote your marketing. Paste your last 20 positive reviews:

Here are 20 customer reviews: [paste]. Find the five most common specific things people praise. For each, write one short social post (under 80 words) that quotes a real phrase from a review, names the benefit in plain English, and ends with a soft mention of [website]. No hashtags, no hype words, no exclamation points. Then list the five review phrases you quoted so I can verify them.

That last line matters. Never publish a "quote" you cannot point to.

What's hot right now

Google's local results are leaning harder on review recency and reply rate in 2026, and AI answers (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) pull heavily from review text when someone asks "who is the best [service] near me." Your reviews are now training data for the recommendation your next customer gets. Reply to them.

Where your web guy fits in

Reviews on your website with proper schema markup show up as stars in search results. Most small business sites either have no reviews on the site or have them as screenshots Google cannot read. Fixing that is a quick win inside the local SEO work at webguynick.com.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use AI to reply to Google reviews?

Yes, if you give it your voice sample and rules. Never post a generic reply, and always read a negative-review reply before sending.

Can I quote customer reviews in marketing?

Public Google reviews can generally be quoted. Keep the quote accurate and verifiable, and avoid editing the customer's words.
