Divi gets blamed for a lot of slow websites. Sometimes fairly. But in my experience managing dozens of Divi sites, the builder is often not the bottleneck. The server underneath it is. Here is a five minute test that tells you which one is your problem.
The Number That Matters: TTFB
Time To First Byte is how long your server takes to respond before sending anything at all. No images, no CSS, just the server thinking. Divi cannot make this number better or worse. It is almost pure hosting.
Under 400 milliseconds is good. 400 to 800 is mediocre. Over 800 milliseconds, your host is stealing speed from every single page view.
The 5 Minute Test
Run your homepage through PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix. Ignore the overall score for now and find the server response time. Run it three times at different hours, because overloaded shared servers are fine at 8am and crawling at 8pm.
While you are there, note Largest Contentful Paint. If TTFB is fast but LCP is slow, your problem is the site build: oversized images, too many plugins, unoptimized Divi settings. If TTFB itself is slow, no amount of image compression will save you.
If The Host Is The Problem
Move. A well configured plan at SiteGround consistently gives me sub 400 millisecond response times on Divi sites, and Hostinger is a strong budget option that still beats the bargain basement hosts by a mile.
If The Site Build Is The Problem
Enable Divi's built in performance options, compress your images, and cut plugins you do not use. This is routine maintenance, and it is exactly the kind of work included in my website care plans so it actually gets done every month instead of never.
